The thing is, you don't want a border to be too distracting, but at the same time, not super plain and boring. I think I've struck a nice balance between the two that, once implemented into the game with all the surrounding art and information, should fit in quite nicely. I see what you mean about being distracting. Now that I think about it, almost all video game HUDs are monochromatic, or very close to. WoW's is Silver and Gold, Fallout's is just one colour as is Oblivion's and most racing game HUDs are black and white.
Yeah, I think you're right, you've got the balance just right. With that in mind, I still think the smoother of the two works better, as the sharper lines of the other one could be a little distracting too.
Also, it's good to see our nonexistent tax bits aren't going to waste. Haven't really seen an update from you guys in a while.
